Landsvirkjun’s role
Landsvirkjun is a state-owned company and our role is to consistently endeavour to maximise the potential yield and value of the natural resources we have been entrusted with, in a sustainable, responsible and efficient manner.

Continuous improvement projects
A diverse group of employees from all divisions within the Company were engaged in the task of reviewing the structure and presentation of management systems within Landsvirkjun.
Landsvirkjuns management systems
Landsvirkjun has a certified management system in accordance with international standards.
The management system gives us a framework for our working practices, strengthens us in important aspects of risk management and allows us to promote transparency in operations.
Improvement projects
We operate in accordance with an integrated, certified Quality Management and Environmental Safety Management System, based on ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001 and the Internal Electrical Safety Operation System (RÖSK), which fulfils the criteria set out by the Iceland Construction Authority on electrical safety issues. Landsvirkjun has been certified as a producer of green electricity by the German company TÜV SÜD, who specialise in certification, testing and inspection. In addition, the Company’s IT Division’s safety management system is certified in accordance with ISO 27001.
Continuous improvement
We work continuously to improve operations and improvement projects. The most prominent improvement projects in 2014 were improvements to the management system (quality control system), further implementation of criteria and benchmarks in operations and improved project prioritisation.

Improvements to the management system
The priority in 2014 was to review the structure and presentation of management systems within Landsvirkjun. The analysis focused on responsibility, cooperation and simplification and a diverse group of employees were engaged in the task.
The main work processes of the Company were analysed (the necessary processes Landsvirkjun requires to fulfil its role and policy). These processes reflect how the Company works as a whole and how responsibilities and communication function between business units. Work also began on redefining the procedures for main work processes as this is part of Landsvirkjun’s commitment to meeting social responsibility demands for responsible governance.
